How to Tip Your Limo Driver in Edmonton (Complete Guide)

2026 Guide  ·  ~5 min read  ·  By Katch A Limo

The standard tip for a limo driver in Edmonton is 15 to 20 percent of the fare, the same range you would use at a restaurant. It is not mandatory, it is not usually included in the quote, and the amount is up to you. Here is how it works in practice: when it is already built in, how to handle it with a group, and what chauffeurs actually notice.

The short answer

Tip 15 to 20 percent of the total fare before tax if the service was good. Go higher for something exceptional, like a chauffeur who handled a chaotic wedding timeline or waited through a two-hour delay without a word. For a short trip where the percentage comes out small, rounding up to a reasonable minimum is the usual courtesy.

Is gratuity included in the price?

At Katch A Limo, no. Our quotes cover the vehicle, the chauffeur, fuel and insurance. Gratuity is separate and at your discretion. Some companies in Edmonton add a mandatory 15 to 20 percent service charge to the bill, so always check the quote. If it says gratuity is included, you do not need to add more, though nothing stops you from rounding up for great service.

How to actually hand it over

  • Cash at the end of the ride is the most direct. Hand it to the chauffeur when you get out.
  • Add it to the payment. If you are paying by e-transfer or card, tell us the amount and we will make sure it reaches the driver in full.
  • For a group, one person collects and tips on everyone’s behalf. Twenty people each handing over five dollars is awkward for everyone.
  • For a corporate account, gratuity can be set as a standing percentage on the invoice so nobody has to think about it.

By occasion: what people typically tip

Airport transfer. 15 to 20 percent of the fare. Add a little if the chauffeur handled a lot of luggage or a delayed flight.

Wedding. 15 to 20 percent of the total, often given by the best man or a parent so the couple does not have to think about it. Many families tip at the higher end because the chauffeur is on their feet for hours and part of the photos.

Night out or casino run. 15 to 20 percent, pooled by the group. If the vehicle came back in the same condition it left, that is worth noting.

Prom or grad night. Parents usually handle this ahead of time so the students are not carrying cash. Tell us and we will add it.

Corporate. 15 to 20 percent, or a fixed amount per trip set on the account.

When to tip more, and when less

Tip more when the chauffeur went beyond the job: adjusted the plan on the fly, waited longer than booked without complaint, helped with something that was not their responsibility, or simply made a stressful day feel easy.

Tip less, or say something to us, when the vehicle was not as promised, the driver was late without a reason, or the service was not what you expected. A tip is feedback. We would rather hear about a problem than have it silently reflected in the gratuity.

A few things chauffeurs actually notice

It is not only about the amount. A thank-you by name, telling us afterward that the driver was excellent, or leaving a review that mentions them goes a long way. Chauffeurs remember clients who treat them well, and it shows the next time you book.

What they do not expect: a tip for a trip that went badly, or apologies for tipping in cash rather than card. Any way is fine.

Tipping etiquette elsewhere in Canada

The 15 to 20 percent guideline holds across the country. Toronto and Vancouver skew a little higher for premium service; smaller cities a little lower. In Edmonton, 15 to 20 percent is the norm and 20 percent is the safe choice if you are unsure.
